German Cockroach home prep tips

Preparing your home before pest control professionals arrive to treat a German cockroach infestation is crucial for the effectiveness of the treatment. Here are detailed guidelines to follow:

Kitchen Preparation

1. Clear Countertops: Remove all items from countertops, including small appliances, food, dishes, and utensils. Store them in sealed plastic bags or containers.

2. Empty Cabinets and Drawers: Take out all items from kitchen cabinets and drawers. Place them in sealed bags or containers.

3. Clean Thoroughly: Wipe down and sanitize all surfaces, including countertops, cabinets, and drawers. Sweep and mop the floor.

4. Store Food Properly: Place all food, including pet food, in airtight containers or store them in the refrigerator.

Bathroom Preparation

5. Clear Surfaces: Remove all items from bathroom countertops, shelves, and medicine cabinets. Store them in sealed containers.

6. Clean Thoroughly: Clean and sanitize surfaces, including countertops, sinks, and bathtubs. Sweep and mop the floor.

Living Room and Bedrooms

7. Declutter: Remove clutter from floors, under furniture, and from closets. Cockroaches love hiding in cluttered areas.

8. Laundry: Wash all bedding, curtains, and clothing in hot water to kill any cockroach eggs or larvae.

9. Vacuum: Vacuum carpets, rugs, and upholstered furniture thoroughly. Pay special attention to corners and edges.

General Home Preparation

10. Seal Cracks and Crevices: Use caulk or silicone to seal cracks and crevices in walls, floors, and around windows and doors.

11. Repair Leaks: Fix any leaky pipes, faucets, or appliances to eliminate water sources for cockroaches.

12. Remove Trash: Take out all trash and recycling. Clean the trash cans and recycling bins.

13. Pet Preparation: Remove pet dishes, toys, and bedding from areas to be treated. Ensure pets are kept away from treated areas during and after the treatment as advised by the pest control company.

14. Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation by opening windows and doors if weather permits.
